Short Term Rental Moratorium

Introduction
A temporary 6-month moratorium on acceptance of applications for Lodging Level 1 (short term rentals) was adopted by City Council on September 27, 2021. The moratorium is designed to give City Council and the Planning Commission appropriate time to review current conditions and analyze potential issues related to short term rentals. All short term rental applications submitted prior to 5pm on September 27, 2021 will be processed in accordance with the Gig Harbor Municipal Code.
The Ordinance has been put into effect to allow the City time to consider adjustment of regulating codes pursuant to short term rentals. Short term rentals have become a popular form of lodging in recent years in areas traditionally used for single family residences. The City would like to fully evaluate the number of existing short term rentals, positive and negative effects on the community and any necessary mitigation that may be needed. Public input is encouraged.
Public Participation
Public input is welcome and encouraged. Please utilize the various methods provided on this page to get involved. In addition, the City of Gig Harbor Planning Commission will be taking up the issue at upcoming meetings and will hold a public hearing. Please refer to the schedule below for more information.
